Nursery practitioner reading with children in a bright classroom

A warm home-from-home day in Leytonstone, with care, play,
food, learning and plenty of time to grow.

At Excel Kids Day Nursery & Contact Centre, we care for children
aged 3 months to 5 years in our independent nursery at
62 Hainault Road, Leytonstone, London E11 1EQ.

We are Ofsted rated Good and provide a caring,
practical and welcoming setting for local families. We are an
independent nursery and are not affiliated with Play and Care
Romford
.

So, what does a child actually get during a day with us? Here is the
useful version: rooms, routines, meals, outdoor play, creative learning
and communication with parents.

A day at our nursery

Children benefit from a familiar routine. It helps them know what is
happening next, while still giving them time to choose activities and
follow their own interests.

The Baby Room follows a gentler routine. Milk feeds, sleep and nappy
changing are arranged around each baby’s individual needs. Babies do not
all work to the same clock, and that is okay.

Hi, we know that every child is different. Our team adjusts routines
to support children as they settle, develop confidence and become more
independent.

Our rooms

Children are cared for in rooms planned around their age, stage and
needs. You can view our nursery
rooms
for more information.

Baby Room: 3 months to 2
years

The Baby Room is a calm, nurturing space for babies and younger
toddlers. Sensory and interactive play helps stimulate early
imagination.

Children may explore:

  • Soft textures and sensory materials
  • Music, sounds and simple movement
  • Interactive toys and books
  • Floor-based play
  • Safe opportunities to reach, grasp, crawl and move
  • Individual milk, sleep and care routines

Our caring and qualified team works closely with families to
understand each baby’s likes, dislikes and usual routine.

Toddler Room: 2 to 3 years

Toddlers are developing language, friendships, confidence and strong
opinions, sometimes all at once.

In this room, children use role-play and dressing up to explore
social and emotional development. A scarf can become a superhero cape. A
box can become a bus. A small world can become a whole Leytonstone
adventure.

Children practise:

  • Sharing and turn-taking
  • Naming emotions
  • Communicating with others
  • Making simple choices
  • Developing independence
  • Joining in with group activities

Preschool Room: 3 to 4 years

The Preschool Room provides a dedicated learning environment for
children preparing for the transition to primary school.

We support children to build:

  • Confidence
  • Self-awareness
  • Communication skills
  • Independence
  • Listening and attention
  • Early mark-making and writing skills
  • The ability to follow routines and work with others

The aim is not to rush children. It is to help them feel ready,
capable and secure as they move towards their next stage.

Outdoor play

Our outdoor area is an extension of the nursery, not just a place to
run around for five minutes before coming back inside.

Outdoor play takes place daily when it is safe to do so. Children use
the space for active play, exploration and planned learning.

Outdoor experiences may include:

  • Tuff trays
  • Sensory and messy play
  • Small-world play
  • Imaginative role-play
  • Mark-making
  • Growing plants
  • Exploring seasonal changes
  • Physical movement and active games
  • Building and construction

Children can investigate mud, water, leaves, natural materials and
changing weather. They can make marks, test ideas and work together.
Yes, sometimes they get messy. This is part of the learning.

We also use the outdoor space to support early science, language,
physical development and problem-solving.

Food and mealtimes

Food is part of the learning experience at Excel Kids Day Nursery.
Children explore colours, tastes and textures while developing
independence at the table.

We encourage children to:

  • Try different foods
  • Help prepare fresh fruit
  • Talk about what they are eating
  • Make vegetable faces
  • Use utensils
  • Pour and serve with support
  • Sit and eat socially with others

Our menu rotates over four weeks. It includes fresh fruit and
vegetables, whole grains, homemade dips, chicken, fish and
vegetable-based meals.

Examples include:

  • Tuna pasta
  • Curly macaroni and cheese with petit pois
  • Oven-roasted chicken with Yorkshire puddings
  • Fresh cod and sweetcorn pie
  • Vegetable chilli with wholegrain rice
  • Slow-cooked sausage ragu
  • Lamb meatballs
  • Seasonal vegetable curry
  • Salmon
  • Homemade dips
  • Fromage frais
  • Fresh fruit platters

We have a Food Hygiene Rating of 5.

Menus are always understood alongside individual dietary and allergen
requirements. Please speak to our team about your child’s needs before
they start, and keep us updated if anything changes.

Creative learning

Expressive arts and creative learning are at the heart of every
day.

Children may paint, sing, dance, listen to stories, take part in
sensory exploration or act out their own ideas through role-play. We
also provide open-ended play using boxes, loose parts and everyday
resources.

These activities support:

  • Confidence
  • Fine motor skills
  • Communication
  • Emotional expression
  • Imagination
  • Independence
  • Problem-solving
  • School readiness

There is often more than one way to complete an activity. A child
might use a paintbrush, their fingers, a sponge or a piece of cardboard.
We focus on the process, not on making every picture look the same.

Children also have access to books, mark-making opportunities,
construction resources and small-world play. A quiet story can be just
as valuable as a loud dance session.

Parent partnership

We know that leaving your child at nursery can feel like a big step.
Our key-person approach helps children build a secure relationship with
a familiar adult.

We offer:

  • Settling-in sessions
  • A caring and qualified team
  • Open communication with families
  • Regular observations and updates
  • Support with routines and development
  • A partnership approach to concerns or questions

Our online children system gives parents real-time updates about
their child’s day. Depending on the information recorded, this can
include nappies, meals, sleeps, activities and observations.

This means you can be at work in Leyton, Stratford, Canary Wharf or
elsewhere and still have a practical picture of your child’s day.

and focused on helping children maintain safe family relationships in an
appropriate setting.

The Contact Centre may support:

  • Supported contact
